Because US land-use laws vary significantly across states, counties, and municipalities, this role acts as the bridge between engineering design teams, commercial developers, and local Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs). Core Responsibilities • Permit Lifecycle Management: Submit, track, and secure approvals for site plans, zoning, land development, storm water management (SWPPP), utility connections, traffic impacts, and building permits across multiple US jurisdictions. • AHJ & Agency Coordination: Serve as the primary point of contact for municipal planners, city engineers, Department of Transportation (DOT), EPA/environmental agencies, and utility companies. • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with civil engineers, surveyors, architects, and general contractors to ensure technical drawings match local municipal submittal checklists. • Comments & Re-submittal Tracking: Monitor municipal plan reviews, log review comments (e.g., plan markups, zoning redlines), assign action items to engineers, and track submittals to beat project deadlines. • Public Hearing & Zoning Prep: Organize materials and documentation for Planning Commission, Zoning Board of Adjustment (ZBA), or public hearing reviews. • Fee & Administrative Management: Calculate, process, and track municipal submittal fees, impact fees, bonds, and public notice mailings. Key Requirements & Qualifications Category Requirements Experience 2–5+ years in civil engineering, commercial construction, or entitlement/permitting consulting. US Domain Knowledge Understanding of US zoning codes, land-use entitlement, setback requirements, site plan reviews, and environmental permitting. Software & Portals Experience navigating US municipal e-permitting portals (e.g., Accela, EnerGov, OpenGov, ProjectDox) and project management tools (Asana, Smartsheet, Procore). Drawing Literacy Ability to read and interpret civil engineering site plans, land surveys, plot plans, and architectural schematics.
